RBI Archives | Preservation of Records
 
The preservation programme of records undertaken by the RBIA aim at long-term preservation of information content/archival records and its physical form kept in its custody for the use of the posterity. RBIA follows a systematic approach to preserve records based on the scientific principles followed by leading archival institutions in India and aboard. The preservation programme include the following main functional areas, i.e.,

Repair and rehabilitation of records,
Providing ambient storage environment to the records, i.e, round the clock maintenance of temperature at 20 Degree Celsius and 45 degree relative humidity.
Sterilization measures at regular intervals in the records storage area to eliminate any chance of damage by biological enemies of records. Physical preservation of its record holdings based on archival preservation methods is one of the priority areas of the functioning of the RBIA. Some new initiatives taken in this regard include deacidification of records having high acidity content, solvent lamination techniques and tissue/hand made paper repairing method by using insect repellant adhesive specially prepared by RBIA staff.
